At the early part of the 21st century, overpopulation across the planet led the top countries to investigate the possibility of colonizing other planets. Far more economically plausible,
however, was the possibility of colonizing the empty frozen lands of Siberia, Antarctica, and Northern Canada and making them fit for human occupation. America, Russia, and Canada
all combined their scientific efforts to use their many isolated arctic Cold War-era radio-tracking stations, known as "The Dew Line", as precursors for future self-operating civilian
communities. However, the remote locations of the bases made them ideal hosts for governments' most secretive experiments. This is a tale of such an experiment gone wrong.

The year is 2019.

Wolf Base, Canada's Northwest Territories, on the Arctic Circle near the edge of The Great Bear Lake:

Dr. White has been locked in his study for several days, for he knows that the instant he leaves the office, some creature outside will kill him. Feverishly he continues his work in the hope of soon being rescued, but many of his comrades see things differently. With most of the soldiers charged to guard the base already missing, the remnants split up and attempt to escape in several directions. The nearest manned outpost being Coppermine on the Arctic Ocean, some 75 miles away, and the temperature staying constant at -40 F, the men know their situation is hopeless.

Luckily, Sergeant Smith and Private Combs hear a radio transmission broadcast by Dr. White just in time to land near the base and rescue the surviving soldiers; Richard Johnson and
Mark Little. The others at that point are all either missing or dead. Rather than leave, Smith decides to go out to find Dr. White with two of the men while Mark Little guards the
chopper. However, White's transmissions ended hours ago and its more than likely that he's already dead.
